What an Interesting Spiritual Season

What an Interesting Spiritual Season

By Shannan Humphrey

What an Interesting Spiritual Season – The rhyme the reason. It’s my prayer and my constant consideration of you are my contemplation and meditation.

My wife has poked fun at me these last few weeks. She showed me her phone and then taken her finger and scrolled through my posts here on Facebook and said no one’s gonna read a post that long babe! To be honest I don’t know if I’ll read all of it! Hehe.

I looked at her and I said I know baby; it may not be for them. It may be for me. See I know and understand the ruts we get in. I too would like to get all there is to get from a short anecdote.

See even that word anecdote if you were truly hungry for understanding and trying to truly understand the mind of another if I knew not what the word meant, I would take a moment to look it up!

Truth is for too many years I too was on the “fast track” of life. I could memorize pretty well. There were many who could do it better. Most times the information school and my peers trying to convince me were important weren’t important at all.

I can tell you that I was so busy being busy that I played four sports instead of one. I did well in all four in my class. Near the top of all four. I remember still yet today believing that in playing all four that each sport would help assist me being better in the others. But now and for many years since I’m not so sure.

If you are a four sporter, you do you, no harm no foul. But what I started to realize was my home life was better than what it could have been, yet it had taught me by happenstance to be all over the board.

We moved so much and so many promises and expectations were dashed against rocks that there weren’t many places for periods or exclamations. Mostly question marks, What’s going to happen?

Poverty, alcoholism, violence verbal and physical mount a dab of constant frustration and blame toward the man and there you have a perfect recipe for? ? ? What’s going to happen today? I don’t know what’s going to happen in the next minute much less make a plan for tomorrow.

For some of you maybe even many of you. Maybe you’ve been torn away from your family, your friends, your school, your teachers, your coaches, your pastors, your meme your papa?

Have you ever been taken into custody by the state? Taken from your family and put in a home with strangers. Stranger danger?!

Many of you know what my wonderful wife does as her life’s mission. She protects kiddos. Do you think being one victimized by that scenario did not have every fiber in me rise up when she told me she worked for DHS. Danger danger. danger.

Many of you, I’ve read it on your faces as soon as I told you. You think we have not been limited to friendships because you like myself did not understand she is truly for the family; all of the family and her desire is to keep the kiddos like me safe while mom and dad get their mess together!

Now, being older, I appreciate it because I better understand if they, as parents, did not have anyone to be accountable to you would certainly not be reading this now. I was so ignorant of the harm being imposed upon me.

Due to my familiarity with my family, a shy boy like me hated being snatched up and placed in a stranger’s home with immediately a whole set of new rules that I had never known even existed.

If you are a placement hear me. Your forceful rules and your lack of understanding of what’s really happening in the mind of that young boy or girl. You better know there are those such as me that have some things to say with intense heat about your foolish forcefulness. It is not ok!

It’s not the child’s fault despite what you think you know! I talk to men all the time that has no clue who they are talking to. They spew these accusations from their lips that are void of compassion! I can in one split moment take your feeling of safety from you.

Easy! I could have a smile on my face and punch you right in your mouth. Rage right in your face with all kinds of expletives in a moment’s notice. Now look you would think in that moment that I was crazy, without any explanation!

You sir ma’am would first be traumatized then maybe a moment later you would fight or flight. But see that’s now that you’re grown. What if it were me and your kid? Where would they run that I couldn’t run them down?

What would they do to punch me yell back at me? Not if they don’t want a worse reaction to happen to them! Now imagine that’s a dad and their son or daughter! Maybe even you and one of your children, God forbid a stepchild adopted child!
